Shyama Prasad Mukherjee opposed granting
of special status to the erstwhile truncated state of J&K. Founder of
Bhartiya Jan Sangh, founded in 1951 post resignation from Nehru ji’s cabinet
due to certain political differences between the two. He died under mysterious
conditions in Kashmir in 1953; allegations persist that he was poisoned by the
Sheikh government in which a Muslim physician made use of a Pandit Nurse to
achieve the goal. The nurse is on record having stated that the physician had
instructed her to administer the injection, given by the former, to the patient
and post administration of injection Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was no more.
Opposing special status was based on
a political ideology and not on communal grounds, but the communal minded
Kashmiri Muslim leadership under Secular garb presented Jan Sangh as enemy of
Muslims. The ghost of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee haunts the communalists even
today and may be one of the main reasons for polarization of the Kashmiri
society on religious grounds.
Farooq Abdullah in a very recent
interview stated that the BJP was doing divisive (communal) politics and that
would lead to such a disintegration of India which nobody would know how to
prevent. How secular the Kashmiri Muslim leadership has been is put in a
chronological order in the text below.
Communal Minds Secular Mask:
Opposition to the special status had
nothing to do with the Kashmiri Pandits, but the poisonously communal minded
Muslim leadership dragged the Pandits in to it and spread the canard that every
Pandit was attached to the Bhartiya Jan Sangh. So the public narrative went
like; Batt gav jansanghi, haya jansanghi haa aaw; when translated it reads as:
Pandit is Jansanghi and Jansanghi has come. So, in one master stroke the
Pandits were declared to be adversaries of Muslims and with continuous
parroting by the leaders a wedge was nailed between the two communities. It’s
interesting to find out how secular the Kashmiri Muslim leadership was, since
its very inception.
1. Sheikh
Mohammed Abdullah: The
tallest of them all. To wage a struggle against what he articulated as the atrocities
of Maharaja Hari Singh, he founded a political outfit “Muslim Conference” and
thereby declaring that he was going to speak only on behalf of the Muslims and
not any other ethnic/religious groups in the erstwhile princely state of
J&K. (A bit of diversion: Interacting with the activists in POK/AJK the
author was surprised to know that they did not consider Hari Singh as a tyrant
and on the contrary had very high respect and regard for the Maharaja. Another
pleasing experience was that they consider Sharda Peeth as their invaluable
heritage) Sheikh’s interactions with the Indian National Congress (INC) made
him realize that the INC was speaking for the people of the erstwhile princely
states and had passed a resolution that the people’s will and not that of the
ruler should decide their political choice. He corroborated it with his
struggle and on his desire to associate with the INC he was advised to have an
outfit that would symbolize secular credentials. While the INC was committed to
coexistence in a multi religious/ethnic society, the Sheikh as a grand
opportunist found an opportunity to grind his axe and rechristened his outfit
as “National Conference”
a. Communal
Credentials: The
first major act of Sheikh, as the PM of the erstwhile state of J&K, was to
snatch all the agricultural lands owned by the Pandits under the Land to the
Tiller programme. While the idea was laudable, his venom against the Pandits
showed up when he did not pay even a penny’s compensation to the owners in lieu
of their lands. Overnight Pandits had lost everything and the poisonously communal
Sheikh had made them beggars (mini scale model of 1990). This singular act
caused large scale exodus of the Pandits from the Valley; it’s another thing
that by dint of their resilience and intelligence combined with hard work they
went on to hold very prestigious positions in the GOI and PMO.
2. Ghulam Mohd. Sadiq/Mir Qasim/Mufti Mohd.
Sayeed: G M Sadiq
regime, that lasted nearly two years as the PM of the state and was thereafter
relegated to the Chair of CM in 1966, initiated the process of the depriving
the Pandits of their job opportunities, career growth in the jobs; and
depriving the Pandit boys and girls of their admission in to professional
colleges and this process further initiated a study migration of Pandits from
the valley in search of jobs and admissions. The other two were in his cabinet
and ironically one of them – Mufti Sayeed – was to be the symbol of Kashmiriat Insaaniyat
and Jamooriat for the “communal” BJP.
a. Mufti Mohd. Sayeed: Known to have
initiated and supervised the forced mass exodus of the Pandits as the Home
Minister of India; ironically he was made the Home Minister even while he was
known to have instigated 1989 communal riots and destruction of Hindu temples.
3. Sheikh
Mohammed Abdullah: In
his second tenure as the CM of the state, starting 1975, he ensured that even
the rankers from the Pandit community did not get admissions in to professional
colleges. He prostituted every institution in the state and egged on the Muslim
youth to prepare for Jihad against the union of India.
4. Farooq Abdullah:
In the state
elections of 1996 his party won with a near 2/3 majority because in his
campaigns he promised every community, religious and ethnic, a kind of autonomy
at local levels and decentralization of political power in a way to empower
people of the state. None of that he did, on acquiring the seat of power. On
the contrary, he instituted State Autonomy Committee (SAC) in which no
opposition party was invited to be a member; nor any academician/historian etc.
Among other nefarious recommendations, that lacked to portray people’s Will;
the SAC recommended that the state be restructured in to eight provinces along
communal fault line!
So much for the Secular character of
non BJP non Jan Sangh non Hindu Maha Sabha Muslim political leadership of
Kashmir! The list
is long enough, but let go for the time being.
5. The only
Secular Muslim Leader: Late Sri Bakshi Ghulam Mohammed, a
two time PM, was the only genuinely secular leader who represented all
communities of the state. A book can be written on his goodwill towards his
people, but not possible to include in this piece.
So Mr. Farooq: Is BJP
discriminating as much against the Indian Muslims as you and others did against
non Muslims in your state? Why don’t you, Mr. Farooq, go to UP and talk to the
Muslim population over there? Don’t talk to Muslim politicians, talk to people
who work very hard whole day to feed their families and don’t seek Ghazwa e
Hind like the kinds of Owaisis You and others. Mr. Farooq the communal politics
indulgence savored by your father and his off shoots brought J&K to
disaster, the policies of BJP do not favour any particular religion; yes it comes
down heavily upon the anti national; terror groups etc. What Balakot achieved
you may ask Imran Khan and not the PM of India; your questioning may be due to
the fact that funding from Pak may have nearly dried up.
The “True Sharia”:
Ignorance is bliss is an age old
proverb, but Mehbooba has brought it to the center stage. Madam Mehbooba you
don’t know Sharia; had you known then you would not have said “True Sharia”
because there is only on Sharia – no true and no false one.
You know Ma’am that as per Sharia,
Innovation is banned because any new thing discovered or invented is bound to
mislead and therefore derail the followers from the Way/Path of Allah. That
means Ma’am that you and your children can go only to religious schools
(Madrasas) and not those where science, technology, art & craft, biology,
zoology etc are taught. Ma’am, you cannot leave your house and go to a market
place with your husband not accompanying you and in case of unmarried/divorced
women their father/brother/ known person accompanying them. Ma’am, you cannot
be appearing before a camera much less on a TV Channel and much more less do
public activity like politics because painting/ photography/sketching/women in
public affairs is all prohibited as per Sharia. Even your late father could not
have appeared before a camera or a TV channel or got his portrait made etc.
Ma’am, you are admirer of Taliban
and want them to implement “True Sharia”; before sermonizing on others please
implement Sharia in your household and family; that is on you and your
daughters. Easiest thing to implement is that the three of you should not go
out without wearing a shuttle cock burqua and without a known male member
accompanying you. You should quit politics and engage yourself in household
work and also advise your daughters to stay at home and not aspire to hold any
public position and office.
