Detachment as I Understand: Lalit k kaul

Detachment as I Understand                                       Lalit K Kaul No claim to perfect understanding. Penning down few lines on the topic based on my reading, observations and experiences. Detachment is antithesis of materialism (hedonism); it’s about sense of belonging and not possession. To be detached is to realize that one can’t own anything in this world because nothing belongs to a mortal. And, detachment follows this realization.   For, if one owns anything then that something shall never separate from the owner. Greatest Truth of life is that even the Prana(the energy flowing in and out of the body) don’t belong to an embodied Being as it does leave the body at some point of time and render it lifeless. What to speak of relatives and friends! What this embodied Self truly owns are habits, nature, temperament, mannerisms and behavioural patterns for, all these that are characteristic of an individual being accompany this embodied Being until the last momen

Sanatan Dharm as I understand

The Sanatan Dharm- As I Understand                                       Lalit K Kaul To start with I want to state that I   am not a scholar, much less an intellectual to claim my whole grasp of the Vedic world-view as detailed out by illustrious scholars in the past. My endeavour in the last 40 years has been to get a hold of it within the limitations of my intellect and thinking/grasping faculties and don’t hesitate to state that even today, for all my effort, I am all at Sea. Yet, whatever understanding I have acquired I want to share it with this group that hosts some known scholars for the reason of improving my understanding through their inputs. Before I proceed further, I want to state that the intent that drove me to read our profound philosophical thoughts was to understand how, possibly, I could relate such profound thoughts to my existence. The Journey: The initial and final destinations are: Sat Chit Anand The voyage in between is Samsara. What is Sat Chit

Genocide of Intellect:Lalit k kaul

Subjugated Mind cleansed of Thought Process is Genocide of Intellect.                                        Lalit K Kaul There is hunger in the stomach, below the stomach and hunger of the intellect. A human being is possessed of these in the same proportion in which the three Gunas- Tamas, Rajas and Sattvik- are present in him/her. One may satisfy the hunger in the stomach and/or below it, or may choose to ignore the two for sometime, but the hunger of the intellect is never satiated. Qualitatively the hunger of the intellect is same in all human beings while it does differ quantitatively. Human mind that perceives the external world based on its inputs from five senses (Gyan Indrian), that perception varies from an individual to another individual- not only qualitatively, but also quantitatively. So, one finds that the depth of knowledge attained and the urge to know more and more about a subject(s) varies from one to another and this capability or incapability is governed

On Culture and being Cultured:Lalit K Kaul

On Culture and being Cultured                                Lalit K kaul The customs, ideas, beliefs, art, literature, architecture, music,   etc. of a particular society/nation, collectively define its culture. This definition as much holds for Kashmiri Pandit Community as for any other community in the world; except for those for whom their religion decides every dimension of their life. While art, literature, music and architecture help in understanding how a society has evolved over a time span and more importantly how its collective Mind has evolved to create new forms, shapes and expressions from the real material world; the belief systems and religious practices define the relationship as it evolved between the mortals and the Absolute- the Ishwar; the Saguna Brahman. Such practices and beliefs are the ways to connect with the Creator. While all kinds of creative works- be they related to Temporal or Spiritual world- by a section of the society do add immense value
