To Trust PAGD is
Suicidal Mr. Prime Minister
Lalit K Kaul
History of a place
has its variants like, 1) Documented History, 2) History of experiences and 3)
History as conveyed through word of mouth. First one can be biased because the
historian may have certain political inclinations, but the last two are factual
unbiased versions of what indeed the people experienced and were conveyed to
them through word of mouth down the generations.
Politicians are
inclined to narrate the history in the way that serves their political interests
and therefore their version(s) cannot be trusted with. The people of erstwhile
state of J&K have been the victims of distorted history as publicly
narrated day in and day out by their depraved leadership; the costs of which
are impossible to estimate. The J&K society stands communally divided and
traumatized the reasons for which are too well known to be once again narrated
here, yet a few points are in order.
History as per
Experience:
Historians may be
intellectuals and/or the qualified ones to document history, but an ordinary
citizen only speaks his/her heart out while narrating the history as
experienced. In the sequel is recorded history as experiences of an ordinary
citizen.
Every political
scientist/ commentator lauded Sheikh Indira Accord of 1974 as it was flaunted
as the ultimate answer to the question of J&K that the JKNC, under the
leadership of Sheikh Abdullah, had been raising since early days of Indian
independence. All that garbage must have got documented in the written text of
the so called history by ever busy historians who make fortunes by publishing
books.
What was Sheikh’s
Intent?
No historian could
have documented his intent as he would not have made it public to them. Yet the
ordinary citizens knew all about it. How? It was directly from the Horses’
mouth that the author also came to know about it.
Mirza Mohd. Afzal
Beg was known to be the brain behind Sheikh, but post the Accord Sheikh had
become wiser than Mirza. Mirza suggested to Sheikh ,”Now that you have once
again captured power why don’t we restart from where we were forced to leave
our agenda in 1953?”. The Sheikh replied, “1974 is not pre 1953 that I give a
call and thousands come out on to the streets. Today people are earning
handsome daily wages that they did not in those times and therefore why would
they forego their incomes to attend to my call. No, it won’t work”. “So what’s
the plan”, Mirza inquired. Sheikh replied,” Wait & Watch”
After Sheikh had
got confidently seated in the chair of the CM and had taken charge of the day
to day affairs, a group of unemployed educated youth sought a meeting with him
and the same was readily granted to them. Prior to the said meeting, the
educated unemployed had lodged protests by the way of driving autos/ horse
carts, selling vegetables, pakodas, fried fish and fruits etc, while displaying
their qualifications. Their ways of protests were highly appreciated by the
people as these were very peaceful and dignified.
The planned meeting
took place and Sheikh in presence of Mirza told the representatives of the
unemployed youth ,”This is not the time to ask for jobs; it’s time to prepare
for Jihad – the final war against the Indian State. All have to prepare for
it”. Mirza was astounded and was rendered speechless. Sheikh always addressed
Indian political leadership as “Dhoti Prasads”
that displayed absolute contempt he had for them and down the
generations the tradition was (and continues to be) carried out in letter and
spirit.
The Seeds for
Secessionist Movement were sown in 1971:
In fact the
preparations for Jihad had started in the aftermath of 1971 war that created B’desh;
it got the real impetus after Sheikh was reinstated as the ruler of the
erstwhile J&K state, while the historians would tell the gullible that
rising in revolt against the Indian State in 1990 was a spontaneous event and
the reasons for which were unfair elections and all the jobs devoured by the
Pandits. George Fernandez and the Communists including Muslim leadership blamed
Pandits for the uprising as, according to them, they had usurped all the jobs
rendering Muslims jobless! The depraved and ignorant politicians outside of the
erstwhile state only provided more vigour to the secessionist movement that had
its roots in the creation of B’desh.
To narrate in
brief: Ghulam Mohd Bhat, Senior Gasman in Senior Chemistry Lab in S P College
Srinagar, where the author studied up to B Sc told the author,” I am happy that
you have left Kashmir for higher studies and am advising you not to return to
Kashmir for job.” “Why”, the author asked. Bhat replied,” there is going to be
blood bath in the Valley. The Pandits shall be forced in to exile else they
will be asked to adopt Islam. The preparations are already going on as we have
to avenge B’desh”. Mr Bhat and the author had very good relationship at the
family level as the father of the author was Professor of Chemistry in S P
College. The year was 1971 and it was his first conversation on the issue with
the author. From ’71 to ’88, every time we
met, Mr, Bhat would convey the same message to the author while being happy at
the thought that me & my family won’t be a victim of the carnage. Mr. Bhat
was affiliated to Jamait e Islami and was a good family friend of ours! He was
like a family member for us and last time the author and his family had lunch
at Mr. Bhat’s house was in 1988. Thereafter, the author was never to visit the
Valley!
The BJP finds a
Messiah!
When the Pandits
were made to flee their homes in 1990, under the banner of Islam, to become
slum dwellers overnight; the Home Minister was Mufti Mohd Sayeed. Even a Jihadi
of the highest order knew and acknowledged that it was the HM who had got his
daughter kidnapped to help distribution of arms and ammunitions across the
Valley; that the HM was the instigator and leader of the riots in 1988/89 and
religious places of Pandits were destroyed under his leadership, this fact was
on everybody’s lips transcending all religious barriers. With all this
background, the BJP leader – highly respected across the political spectrum-
who became the first non Congress party member to become the PM for 5 years
declared Mufti Sayeed as the symbol of Kashmiriat! Could there have been a
bigger travesty of history and his truth? No. So, the tag of “Dhoti Prasad”
stuck more cohesively on the gullible Indian leadership.
His daughter went
on the prowl like a tigress in the Lok Sabha declaring her to be an incarnate
of Shaheed Bhagat Singh! So, she was to the Indian Union what Bhagat Singh was
to British Crown! The grand BJP formed government with PDP in the erstwhile
state of J&K thereby legitimizing PDP’s anti national and communal politics
in the same way as the INC had for the JKNC.
On the Payrolls of
Pakistan:
In the late 50s, in
Jammu there was this Mr. Jain who held a very high position in IB. The author
is a witness to his statement,” I had crossed over to the other side to collect
brief case for Sheikh Sahab”. The author’s father and Mr. Jain were great friends
and would meet with each other at least twice a week. There would be periods of
long absence on the part of Mr. Jain and on inquiring about it he would answer
as mentioned above. The PM was Sri Nehru!
This business of
being on payrolls that essentially sustained insurgency in the erstwhile
J&K state was accorded respectability by the singular incongruous act of
the GOI that provided security cover to the secessionists! Bharat Mata Ki Jai
& Vande Matram!
Invitation to PAGD
is Repeat of 1974:
The decision of
PAGD to attend the meeting called by the PM is not a pointer towards their having
accepted abrogation of (nonexistent) Article 370 and 35 A. They, for sure, are
attending the meeting to convey its internal discussions to their masters in
Pakistan who would then create some noises in the international forums for the
sake of feeding their internal political requirements. Pak media is already making
lot of noise about the J&K related meetings in our country. That they have
the permission from their Pakistani masters for attending the meeting, is a
very simple assessment to make.
They are not going
to abide by what they would agree to in the meeting, like their ancestors who always
played a double game. These depraved politicians are brilliant enough to
exploit the meeting outcome to their advantage and go on the offensive for
misleading the people in an attempt to create distrust and turmoil in the
society.
The BJP leadership
may learn from the history and not lose sight of the fact that it’s the
antecedents of a person that define him/her. To judge one today, antecedents
play a very important role. The antecedents of PAGD are: 1) anti national, 2)
anti social, 3) rabidly communal and 4) don’t believe in empowering people.
Other Alternatives:
The youth in
J&K have thrown up some alternatives by 1) engaging themselves in social
work, 2) founding a new political party, 3) by fielding candidates as
independents in the local body elections and wherein they have attained
impressive successes.
The GOI and its
political leadership need to talk to these youth who have seen and experienced
30 dark years of their lives and in order to salvage their society &
rebuild it from its remains have come up with initiatives as detailed above.
It is their
aspirations and their vision for a new J&K not enslaved to Pak through
currency receipts that should be given an ear to and accordingly plan for the
future of J&K.
The fossils have become irrelevant as they
have lost most of their base and the political vacuum is sought to be filled by
the untainted youth. The GOI should talk to the youth.
Salvation of the
people of J&K lies in dumping PAGD to the dustbin of History. Let history
not repeat itself.
