That the PDP is
progeny of the BJP Mehbooba Mufti should know
Lalit
K Kaul
It is always interesting to read
history; more interesting and revealing to dig it, if required. For all the
self proclaimed “Secular” credentials of the PDP – as also of other political parties
across the spectrum- Ms. Mehbooba Mufti needs to be reminded that her PDP was
fathered by the BJP- the declared “communal” political party by all the
perverted “Secularists”. The willing Mother was late Shri Mufti Muhammad Sayeed
who was disgruntled with his the then parent party, the Sonia Congress.
For details regarding the birth of
PDP and the reasons behind it and how the Indian army facilitated campaign of
Ms. Mehbooba in the areas inaccessible to other party’s contestants due to “Hum
Kya Chahtae Azadi campaign as hijacked by the sponsor of terror from across the
border”, in the run up to the 2002 Assembly elections in the erstwhile J&K
state, that helped PDP form coalition government with the J&K Congress; the
reader is referred to the following report as appeared in The Caravan:
Is Mufti
Sayeed's PDP a creation of the National Democratic Alliance?
By Praveen Donthi, The
Caravan, 17th April, 2019
Though Mr. Donthi has left
conclusions of his investigations to the readers’ grasp, yet one can’t miss the
point that the BJP, a major constituent of the NDA, was primarily responsible
for the birth of PDP.
The reason why the investigative
article- as mentioned in aforesaid lines- is referred to shall be clear from
the content in the sequel.
The Politics of Blackmail:
Any political analyst who
understood/understands the Kashmiri Muslim politicians’ (leaders’) mind may not
hesitate to say that all along, since 1947, the Muslim leadership’s indulgence
has been (continues to be) the politics of blackmail. The foundations for the
politics of blackmail were laid by Sheikh Abdullah and religiously carried on
with by the leaders of all the political parties in Kashmir; the only exception
being late Sri Bakshi Ghulam Muhammad – the two times PM of the erstwhile state
of the J&K.
The Muslim leadership in Kashmir
were (and continue to be) always good at betrayals; betrayal of the trust
placed in them by the National level political leadership; always more cunning
than a fox and more treacherous than a snake; their political narrative
depended upon their physical location in the geographical area of the erstwhile
state of the J&K. Their political narrative in Kashmir Valley was a 180⁰ apart from the one in the Jammu region and beyond
extending up to New Delhi and they excelled in misleading the national
leadership in to believing that the Muslims were suffering from a sense of
alienation and hence certain economic measures required immediate attention to
bring them in to the mainstream. This narrative of ‘alienation’ versus ‘mainstream’
was the backbone of the politics of blackmail and to their credit their success
record was/is a 100%.
The outcome was the continued huge fiscal support for
the “development oriented projects” which was the Cake and the Icing on it was
the pocketing of the allocated funds. Back to the Valley, the transit of funds
from the “development projects” in to their pockets witnessed a drought in development
works leading to disillusionment of the youth from the socioeconomic and
political set up and further “alienation”. There was no accountability on the
pretext of “special status” that however had ceased to be since 1966. A vicious
circle had been woven that had no beginning and no end.
The Gullible and the Cunning:
The Muftis, however, surpassed all
the earlier scaled heights of political chicanery/debauchery in the act of
political opportunism for grabbing political power in the erstwhile state of
J&K. The biggest failure of the Indian National leadership has been (and
continues to be) their inability to read the political mind of the Kashmiri
Muslims’ leadership and unwillingness to learn from the past. The inability/unpreparedness
of the Indian State to act ruthlessly against those who had challenged its sovereignty,
for protecting its geographical boundaries, found it looking for other ways to
bring around those who had raised the banner of revolt against the Indian
Nation State. The weak are always gullible because ‘trust’ in the other party
is the only way out for them and the Indian State gave the impression of being
like a weak helpless individual/ group. Invariably the powerful or those in
control and/or in touch with the ground realities end up betraying the trust
put in them.
So, the then Indian political
leadership in command chose to trust Mufti Muhammad Sayeed in that he would
bring the militants/terrorists on board and help the then central government in
assimilating them in to the “mainstream”; because they had this information
that the Muftis are in touch with the terrorist organizations/leaders and enjoy
a kind of rapport with them. Mufti had also had this reputation of being a “main
stream” politician more so because he had been the Home Minister of India.
Mufti readily agreed to it and the bargain was that his family would catapult
to political power in the erstwhile state of the J&K.
The events to follow were founding
of a new (by name only) political set up that would fight elections in the
state and in a fair way get to the seat of power. That Mufti was a ripened
fruit that would fall to the temptations of wielding political power in the state,
as the Sonia Congress had refuse to make Ms. Mehbooba as leader of the
opposition in the Assembly and Mufti as the President of the state unit, was
the horse the BJP were willing to bet on.
What perhaps hastened the process of
founding a new political outfit was the behaviour of the Baby Political
Chameleon – Farooq Abdullah s/o the unmatched political chameleon and debauch,
Sheikh Abdullah. He was trying to hide
his failures, post 1996 Assembly elections, by raising a bogey that his father
had excelled at. Therefore the chameleon
had to be confronted politically.
The PDP formed coalition government with the Sonia
Congress in the state. That was not only political opportunism, but also
political prostitution by a power hungry Mufti because he formed government
with his erstwhile political outfit that he had parted ways with on the issue
of power sharing within the JK Congress.
Political Debauch can’t be trusted:
The cunningness prevailed in that the Muftis never
acted as the mediator between the insurgents and the central government. The
hardest ever slap that the progeny (PDP) gave on the face of its parent (BJP)
was in the form of Mufti Sayeed’s public statement thanking the terrorists in
the state and their sponsors in Pakistan and the Pakistan State for allowing
smooth conduct of the Assembly elections in 2015. The BJP had ended up
promoting a political outfit whose heart beat for Pakistan and Hurriyat
including the terrorists. Once again the Kashmiri Muslim leadership had made an
Ass of the National leadership. How easily the Kashmiri Muslim leadership can
beguile the national leaders, that question was put to rest once and for all by
the PDP. The BJP could only smile embarrassingly because they too were power
hungry as they were going to taste political power in the erstwhile state of
J&K for the first time. It was like a dream come true for the BJP. Imagine Shyama Prasad Mukherjee turning in his
grave (if there could be one for him)!
The PDP history in gist:
Opportunistic and self serving elements in the state Sonia
Congress quit the party; BJP fathered formation of PDP; PDP chose to be political
bedmate of Sonia Congress and BJP for the sake of the CM’s Chair. End up being willing
bedmate of the Taliban; remains to be seen whether the Taliban would be
enamoured of such a debauch.
The Kashmiri Muslim Youth may take a call:
It is the political debauchery and political opportunism
across the political spectrum in the UT of J&K that was/remains one of the
main reasons for the devastating turmoil in the region; therefore Kashmiri
Muslims (because they are more than 99% in the Valley) need to take a call on
whether to put their faith in the fossil political parties or throw up some
alternate political outfit(s) that shall challenge the hegemony of the
degenerate political parties to usher in a new dawn in the UT of the J&K.
The way the Muslims in the Valley choose that way their destiny shall roll out.
