Volcano while BJP trades for Votes

It’s one thing to be an election
strategist and totally different one to be the Home Minister (HM) of India. We
have had many incompetent HMs during Smt. Indira ji’s time, but then they were
there to follow only her dictates and not use their brains for anything that
fell in their domain of work. The BJP always makes a tall claim of “party with
a difference” and always speaks from very high moral pedestal; so, one expects
the BJP ministers – be it at Center or State – to be different from others in
that they take responsibilities on their head and discharge them in the
interest of our beloved Nation- what they call “Bharat Mata”- and are not
dependent on the orders from the PM or a CM. If this can be the yardstick –
keeping in mind their tall claims – then the incumbent HM does not seem to be
qualified for the job, as he always functions as an election strategist than a
HM, whatever be the obtained situation.
Sri V P Singh in one of the
Parliamentary elections – post his quitting Rajiv Congress – was asked why in
his constituency only BJP banners were to be seen almost everywhere and he
responded,” dukandaron (traders) kee party hai, apni hi kisi dukaan sae kapda
laayae hongae”. Having observed BJP for some decades now, Sri V P Singh’s
observation was right on the dot. The events in the recent past will show how
BJP trades for its anticipated gains at the cost of the honour of our beloved
Nation.
The Shaheen Bagh:
Anybody with a bit of commonsense
and a bit of understanding of the Indian political dynamics understood that
anti CAA protests were in letter and spirit a well organized rehearsal of
Jinnah politics; else, there absolutely was no reason for a section of
politicians/academicians/intellectuals to create an ambience to tell the world
that the Indian law makers were planning to oust Muslims of Indian origin from
their places of birth, home and hearth. It was a neatly designed exercise to
see how the Home Ministry would respond and latter’s response would certainly
have encouraged the anti India elements to plan for a bigger assault some other
day.
Combined with the incumbent HM
unfortunately Delhi had a CM who is known for his inflammatory speeches and
irresponsible acts in the public domain. While the Delhi CM supported Shaheen
Bagh & wanted it to continue even under Corona pandemic (Jinnah politics),
the HM allowed the blockade in the hope of winning Delhi Assembly Elections. It
was amazing to see how helpless the Home department was; one wondered if they
had women squad in Delhi Police!
BJP isn’t talking about NRC and
implementation of CAA, since Jinnahs in the making held whole country to ransom
and fed the world and in particular Pakistan & Gulf Nations about how
Muslims are being discriminated against in India.
The much maligned Smt. Indira Gandhi
(by self eulogizing BJP leaders) wouldn’t have allowed/tolerated this kind of
disorderliness that threatened the safety of other residents and put Capital
city to shame. Remember how she handled textile workers’ strike which was led
by George Fernandez the one who was charge sheeted in Baroda Dynamite case.
The trade off did not pay off for
BJP, as the pro Jinnah forces held the sway and BJP got a hard/ humiliating
slap on its face; but sloganeering like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” & “Vande
Matram” ever reverberated with higher pitch.
What the farmers’ agitations of 80s
& 90s were demanding and what Swaminathan Commission had proposed, the new
Agri laws tried implementing the demands and recommendations to some extent.
Chaudhary Mahendra Singh Tikait, Prof Nanjunda Swamy, Sri Sharad Joshi, and
other farmer leaders from Punjab and Tamilnadu had been demanding what 3 Agri
laws provided for. That’s why there were no protests from the farmers of
Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Maharashtra; but some goons who had made it good
through MSP as middlemen and who controlled mandis in Punjab & Haryana were
egged on by the leaders like Capt Amrinder Singh, Kejriwal and Communists (who
are known to act against the National interests) including people of Italian
origin to gherao Delhi and bring the central government to its toes. The laws
enacted in the Parliament were sought to be negated by street politics; the
message that came loud and clear was that henceforth the laws would be enacted
on Indian roads and not in the Parliament. The hooliganism went on unabated,
despite SC intervention, as the Home Ministry looked on. The whole world was
told how easy it was to gherao and hold to ransom the capital city of India.
All this was allowed because the HM
was counting votes in UP. Then Capt. Amrinder Singh dangled a carrot and told
the “Sapoots” of “Bharat Mata” that if they withdrew Agri Laws his newly formed
party would fight elections in Punjab with BJP as its ally and senior partner.
To be recognized as senior partner in Punjab elections was beyond BJP’s wildest
imaginations and therefore immediately “Bharat Mata” was disposed off for the
sake of a possible electoral victory in the State; if not a victory enabling
government formation at least a sizeable number of Assembly seats that would
proclaim arrival of BJP in Punjab.
The PM assuming a very high moral
pedestal declared, outside Parliament, that since a section of farmers were not
convinced of the new Agri laws, his government was withdrawing it!! Mr. PM
since when did a Democracy become consensus based? The PM thus undermined the
temple of democracy – the Parliament. Yet again it turned out to be a
humiliating trade off, but BJP did trade expecting gains.
Before Smt. Indira Gandhi imposed
emergency, there had been too many activists bent upon creating chaotic
conditions; there was this individual who had never taken any responsibility in
his lifetime, gave a call for “Sampoorn Kranti” (Total Revolution), sitting in
Patna. However his Kranti never even reached Jamshedpur (part of Bihar). He was
declared “Lok Nayak” in much the same way as Ghulam Nabi Azad was decorated
with Padma Bhushan. Smt. Gandhi anticipating bigger chaos declared emergency
and its positive effects were seen for quite some time in the country; its
prolonged existence and misuse of powers by some caused downfall of Smt. Gandhi
insofar as her public popularity was concerned. However, the point being made
is that she didn’t care for her political future and did what she thought was
right step forward. She put her political future at stake because she wanted
India to survive the onslaught of forces inimical to her existence. She lost
1977 elections, lost her own seat in the Parliament. What a contrast between
the two PMs – Smt. Indira Gandhi and Sri Narendra Modi. The incumbent PM
succumbed to the goons who gheraoed Delhi for sake of some seats in Punjab and
the much maligned PM sacrificed her political career for doing what she thought
was good for the country.
Bengal Situation and Hardik Patel:
Mamta Banerjee indulgences have been
not only unconstitutional, but also a threat to India’s integrity. Bengal is
Kashmir in the making. She defied CBI; sat on dharna asking police commissioner
to sit beside her; abusive language against the PM; jumping like a monkey on
“Jai Sri Ram”; refused to shut down mosques for a long time during Corona
pandemic; ordered shut down only after Moulvis had consented for it; HC has
reprimanded her; her goons go on killing spree while the police watches as mute
spectator; Governor prorogued the Assembly; HM has all the reports on her
governance style; but she won’t be touched. The HM does not want to do anything
in Bengal to improve its law and order situation, as there is no trade off in
favour of BJP in near future.
Hardik Patel, a young boy who raised
relevant question on reservations; spoke a few words about police and was
charged under sedition and imprisoned. Why, because BJP saw in him a threat to
its political future in Gujarat. Why speaking against police is an act of
sedition while a CM sitting on dharna alongside commissioner police is not? BJP
is a master at defining morality and ethics to suit their interests. Who
doesn’t know that police is handmaiden of party in power. The role of police
during SP government in UP and its role during BJP government is self
explanatory for labeling it as handmaiden. In no State police has any
independence to act on its own for maintaining law and order. Remove Yogi ji
today and let Akhilesh become CM and then watch how the same police dances on a
different node. In fact during the election campaign the SP and Asaddudin
Owaisi openly threatened police with dire consequences after they capture power
in UP. They will all roam free because BJP has recaptured power and rest of it
is of no consequence.
Trading the Pandits’ Nightmare for
consolidation of votes:
No political party could take
political advantage of that masterpiece – Kashmir Files- based a 100% on facts,
as BJP did. BJP screaming from roof tops; questioning roles of all but its own
in the political dynamics that led to ethnic cleansing of the Pandits from the
Valley, in the Parliament; as if the documentary was BJP’s initiative. BJP MPs
never ever raised KP issue in the Parliament when it was in opposition and
never moved a bill in the Parliament for redemption of KP honour when in power.
Immediately after exodus- the time when Ayodhya temple movement was on- the
BJP/RSS combine exploited the dazed, homeless, unemployed, out of education
routine, Pandit youth and as well as old and middle aged to be Kar Sevaks, on
the promise that they would solve their problems.
When the Pandits gave the call for
political resolution of their problem and demanded Homeland to the North and
East river Jhelum, the BJP/RSS combine worked very hard to sabotage the
movement and did succeed in it. Even today the BJP/RSS don’t have the political
courage/will to demarcate Homeland for the Pandits, but have a very long ago reconciled
to a carved out Muslim majority district in Kerala by the Communist government.
If today BJP sees a trade off in their favour, it will not hesitate to create
many such Muslim majority districts; Shaheen Bagh and abrogation of Agri laws
are the examples of the same.
All this sudden burst of emotions
for the Pandits post release of Kashmir Files is with an eye on the upcoming
Assembly elections in seven States; a process for consolidation of “Hindu”
votes to ensure their victories in the elections.
BJP accuses other parties for what
happened in Kashmir, but forgets that its governments continued State sponsored
security cover for the Separatists that included terrorists like Yasin Malik,
et al and then the SC had to intervene based on some PIL (?). The BJP decorated
Mufti Mohammed Sayeed with symbol of “Kashmiriat” the mastermind of Anantnag
riots in which temples were destroyed and Pandits murdered. The BJP encouraged
Mufti to form his own political outfit; the man who was known to have contacts
with the terrorists and whom the Congress had written off. The PDP is the child
of BJP and BJP formed coalition government with it. BJP who supported V P
Singh’s government at the Center – the HM was Mufti Mohammed Sayeed- when
Pandits were forced out of the Valley. On V P Singh’s posture/ attitude “Who
Pandits”, the BJP never questioned him on his remark, but now to consolidate
its vote banks for the upcoming State Assembly elections; it is masquerading as
benefactor of the Pandits. The irony is that Pandits are clapping.
Alas! Sri V P Singh’s categorization
of BJP as a party of traders has stood the test of time!
