Khalistan Protagonists:Lalit k kaul

The Demand for Khalistan- The Facts Khalistan Protagonists need to know

                            Lalit K Kaul

From the map that delineates the boundaries of the kingdom of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, it’s very clear that those demanding the creation of Khalistan from within India have only the singular aim of fomenting trouble and unrest in East Punjab with the object of creating political uncertainty in the region and create a divide between its two major communities

And, in this endeavour the pro-Khalistan elements find encouragement from countries like UK, Australia, Canada and Pakistan. The western neighbour being the most potent trouble creator in the region motivated by its “a thousand cuts” doctrine.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh:

Maharajah Ranjit Singh Sandhawalia (November 13, 1780 - June 27, 1839), also known as "Sher-e-Punjab" ("The Lion of Punjab"), became the first Sikh Emperor after uniting the 11 Sikh Kingdoms of Punjab on the foundations of the Khalsa and under the banner of Sarkar-i-Khalsa, from 1799-1839.

Shah Mohammed (a famed Sufi poet of the Punjab) writes in his, “Jang Namah” on the decline of Ranjit Singh’s kingdom:

"Ranjit Singh was a born warrior-king who gave his feel to the country. He conquered Kashmir, Multan, Peshawar and made Chamba, Kangra and Jammu bow before him. He extended his territories up to Ladakh and China and struck his coin there. O Shah Mohammed! For fifty years he ruled with satisfaction, glory and power."

For Shah Mohammed, Punjabi Muslims became part and parcel of the Sarkar-i-Khalsa (the Sikh Kingdom of Ranjit Singh), where in the past they had depended on the Afghans, Arabs, Pashtuns, Persians, and Turks, who had consistently betrayed them. (Ref: sikhwiki.org)

The Khalistan:

Historically only Sarkar-i-Khalsa of Maharaja Ranjit Singh can inspire the protagonists of Khalistan. If that be so, then the demand for creation of the same naturally include such geographical areas of his kingdom which now lie in Pakistan. These are: Peshawar, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Attock, Pindi Gheb, Nurpur, Mankera, Leia, Gujarat, Sargoda, Chillianwala, Sialkot, Ramnagar, Sheikhpura, Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Faislabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Pakpattan and Kasur.

Therefore, if the protagonists of Khalistan are to lead a genuine movement for its creation, then Pakistan is a stumbling block on their way forward and they need to clear it from their path and not be pawns in Pakistan’s hand to foment trouble in India only to traumatize the Punjabi society which has suffered more than a decade of trauma in the late 20th century. Because Sarkar-i-Khalsa can’t be complete without the Muslims in areas of Pakistan- that once formed the part of kingdom- being a part of it since Sarkar-i-Khalsa took under its umbrella the Muslims of the region

Those on the pay- roles of Canada, UK, Australia and Pakistan need to understand that a farcical movement (like the one in Jammu and Kashmir and earlier in Indian Punjab) leads only to dehumanizing a society and if they insist on doing so then the blood of the people shall be on their hands.

The Betrayers/Agents are also within:

Amritpal Singh “event” has thoroughly exposed the Punjab government in that it may not be outrageous to surmise that it covertly supported his activities that culminated into his armed brigade attacking a police station. The fault equally lies at the door step of the home ministry for its agencies failure to monitor Amritpal’s activities because those didn’t tantamount to “law & order” problem, but were intended to challenge the very integrity of Indian Nation.

It was in the public domain that AAP under the leadership of its Convener was favourably disposed towards Khalistani Elements and therefore it put a huge responsibility on the Home Ministry to track down such nefarious activities that were inimical to Indian integrity. And, it failed in its duties beyond debate.

While the electronic media is trumpeting the arrests made so far, it conveniently forgets that the leader Amritpal Singh is still at large. One gets an idea of how compromised the State machinery is from the fact that 80,000 policemen deployed to arrest Amritpal Singh failed to do so and it happens only with the blessings of the political leadership.

The Article 356:

Under Article 356 of the Constitution of India, if a state government is unable to function according to Constitutional provisions, the Union government can take direct control of the state machinery.

The attack on the police station and meek surrender of the police- which in all States has been relegated to being a handmaiden- should invoke Article 356 leading to dismissal of Bhagvant Singh Mann government. But the Q is: Will the Central government, do it?

According to some political analysts the dismissal may create “sympathy wave” for Kejriwal and due to upcoming State Assembly elections dismissal may not be the wise thing to do! It implies that winning an Assembly election is more important than upholding integrity of Indian Nation!

The biggest handicap is that the Home Minister of India is also highly acclaimed election strategist for BJP and therefore, there remains a high degree of “Conflict of Interests”.

If winning elections remains the topmost priority, then it remains to be seen to what extent Punjab will be allowed to experience turmoil and atmosphere of fear before it is made into an election issue by the political outfit desperate to form government in the border State!

In the 1980s the then ruling party at Center played with fire in Punjab and it looks like that the History is going to repeat itself with dire consequences of unimaginable magnitude.

Until then Fingers X
